Who I am and what I do
My name is Jennifer Brand and I am a clinical nutritionist in Los Angeles. I have a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO, and a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, CT. My mission is to promote general health and well being, and support those with chronic, complex health conditions by providing diet, lifestyle and nutrient supplementation recommendations where appropriate.
I strive to empower, educate, and inspire people and families who are looking to enhance their quality of life and are interested in using alternative and complementary methods to do so (like diet, lifestyle and supplementation interventions).
I form a therapeutic partnership, a team with my clients. My philosophy is grounded in the principles founded by the Institute of Functional Medicine to address the underlying causes of disease and illness through use of a systems oriented approach. I address my clients holistically because they are more than a set of symptoms, and we must take into account individual genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can impact long-term health status, and chronic and complex disease in order to do this.
My clients are those of all ages who are looking for general nutritional counseling, coaching, and meal planning, and those that have ongoing, complex and chronic health problems (ADHD, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, gastric bypass surgery, cancer, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, digestive issues such as IBS, and IBD, celiac disease, and food allergies/sensitivities for example, among others) that have not been resolved by conventional medical treatments alone. Often these complex and chronic cases benefit from interventions that complement conventional treatments, like diet, lifestyle, and nutrient supplementation. Many people are beginning to understand this functional and integrative approach and are looking for such an alternative, thus they are willing to work in a partnership with a clinical nutritionist and a broader care team to promote better health status through interventions targeted to their personal needs.
How my services can benefit yoU
I provide in depth, personalized attention and customized recommendations to clients involving diet, lifestyle and nutrient supplementation (when appropriate). We can work together for the betterment of the people we serve. Forming integrated holistic care partnerships (referral relationships) with each other can enhance the quality of life for your patients and my clients.
As a physician (or other healthcare provider), you may find you have limited time to address all issues with patients, and need to focus on the primary concern at hand. This is why referring patients out to someone who can address these other issues, like nutrition, makes sense for you and for your patient, and gives your patient the holistic care they need. Creating such a relationship benefits all parties involved and allows you to take action and support your patients on their road to improved health status. This process can allow you to enhance your practice, and empower your patients to play an active role in their health by providing them with the support, and tools they need to succeed.
Creating a partnership also allows me to have a referral source for my clients that require conventional medical care and services that are not within the scope of my practice.
I can provide services that are unique, and that are in high demand. By working together, we can improve the health and well being of those we serve, and put the pieces of their health back together.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to partnering with you!
